Dr Kyounggon Kim is the Course Leader for the MSc Cyber Security course at Ravensbourne University London (RUL). Prior to relocating to the United Kingdom, he served as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), where he was a founding member of the Center of Excellence in Cybercrime and Digital Forensics (CoECDF).

He has more than 15 years of experience in cybersecurity across consulting, industry, and academia. Before joining academia, he worked at Deloitte, PwC, and specialist cybersecurity consulting firms, where he delivered penetration testing and security consulting projects for over 130 organisations. He also serves as a security consulting mentor for the Korean government's Best of the Best (BoB) programme.

He has previously served as an industry-university cooperative professor at Korea University, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in offensive cyber capabilities, including encryption, network, web, system, reverse engineering, mobile, and IoT security. Known for his highly popular classes that frequently fill up within minutes of registration, he was honored with the Excellent Teaching Award for three consecutive years (2018, 2019, 2020). Additionally, he has been invited by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to serve as a lecturer for professors from Western Asia as part of the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative, of which he remains an active member.

In his academic and mentoring work, Dr. Kim has led a wide range of research projects through the Best of the Best (BoB) program, sponsored by the Korean government. These include studies on state-sponsored hacker TTPs, Z-Wave smart-home vulnerabilities, ROS (Robot Operating System) security, instant messaging forensics, and neuroscience-related cyber threats. His students have consistently received national recognition for their research excellence.

Dr. Kim’s professional background includes more than nine years of cybersecurity consulting experience at Deloitte and PwC, where he led security audits, compliance assessments (ISO 27001, ISMS, PIMS, PCI-DSS), and internal audits across the financial, energy, telecommunications, and consumer sectors. He also provided computer forensic services and security architecture consultancy for various governmental organizations, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Administration in Korea, and contributed to national-level strategy projects in Indonesia.

A certified CISSP and CISA, Dr. Kim was invited by ISC2 headquarters to serve as a subject matter expert for the CISSP exam translation project. His achievements include a 6th place finish at DEFCON CTF 2007 and 1st prize at Korea’s Hacking Defense Contest. He is also the author of Internet Hacking and Security and the translator of numerous authoritative texts on cybersecurity.

His current research focuses on artificial intelligence with cyber, cybercrime intelligence, smart city security, financial system threats, and nation-state cyber operations.
