Dr. Kyounggon Kim is an Assistant Professor at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS). He is starting member at the Center of Excellence in Cybercrime and Digital Forensics (CoECDF). He is teaching cybersecurity and cybercrime, and network forensics. Before he joined the NAUSS, he lectured as an industry-university cooperative concentration professor at Korea University. He was teaching offensive cyber capabilities to graduate student and undergraduate student at Korea University. He is a representative security consulting mentor at the Best of the Best (BoB) program sponsored by the Korea government. He has conducted penetration testing over 130 clients for various industries such as financial, energy, and consumers when he worked for Deloitte, PwC and boutique consulting firms during over 15 years.

He joined Korea University from 2016 summer. He is lecturing basic hacking practice and advanced hacking practice to undergraduate and graduate students in Korea University. His lecture is very unique. He show hacking big picture and lecture all of offensive areas such as encryption hacking, network hacking, web hacking, system hacking, reverse engineering, mobile hacking and IoT hacking as well as offensive background Korean hacker's history and threat actors including state-sponsored hackers. When he open his class for graduate and undergraduate students, all seats occupied in a minutes. He is invited from United Nations Office Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as a lecturer for Western/Asia professors to promote the Education for Justice (E4J) initiative. He became a member of UNODC E4J initiative.

He is leading various BoB (Best of the Best) project as a mentor. His leading projects as a BoB mentor are research for ‘State-Sponsored Hackers techniques and trends’, ‘Smart-Home vulnerability and countermeasure’, ‘Z-Wave Security Vulnerability’, ‘ROS (Robot Operation System) vulnerabilities and countermeasure’,  ‘Brain-Hacking security’, ‘Instant Message Vulnerability analysis and countermeasure’ and so on. A lot of students participated in his project are received a prize Best 10 Students in BoB program. One of His best ability is to make student strongly their potential ability.

Before he joined Korea University, he was working for over 9 years in Deloitte (2012-2016) and PwC (2008-2011). He was working in Risk Advisory and Cyber Risk services. He has a business strategic thought with security, audit and IT risk. He conducted security strategy consulting to large company, and delivered security master-plan to the top-level of organization. He has a good understanding for compliance, business process and security organization. He led various compliance-based security consulting such as ISO 27001, ISMS, PIMS and PCI-DSS to consumer industry clients. He was in-charge many IT audit and internal audit engagements and provided computer forensic services for domestic and global company. He made entire computer forensic manual in PwC Korea. He advised security architecture to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Public Administration and Security of Korea Government as well as Indonesia.     

He is a good standing as a member of CISSP and CISA. He is invited the CISSP exam translation workshop from ISC2 headquarter because of his unique blended outstanding expert experiences.

He got a prize 6th place in DefCon CTF 2007 and also got a first prize at 1st Hacking Defense Contest hosted by Korea Information Security Agency. He was awarded the Excellent Teaching Award in Korea University (2018, 2019, 2020). He wrote a internet hacking and security book and translated lots of security books. His research interests include offensive security for smart city, financial, and national security.
